Team Challenge
October 24-26, 2008
You were good leaders and let the Scouts do the Patrol Challenge on their own. Now it's time to take the gloves off and see what you can do. You saw how much fun the kids had - now it's your turn.
This is a fun event for adults, as long as you are 21 years old or older. We know you all have busy schedules, so we've designed the Team Challenge with the flexibility to allow you to participate as much or as little as you like.
Along with being a lot of fun, this event promotes problem solving, decision making, camaraderie, teamwork and leadership. Oh, by the way, did we mention it is fun? Hey, boss, how about sponsoring your employees for a team? Get out of giving them that big raise they deserve - sponsor them in the Team Challenge.
The object of the Challenge is to:
- Have fun!
- Discover new places and enjoy unique experiences.
- Earn as many points as possible by:
- Figuring out locations, going there and taking your picture.
- Participating in activities and solving puzzles.
Start assembling your team quickly, before a rival team has a chance to steal one of your star players. Look for these qualities in your teammates:
- Cleverness and cunning
- Laughs a lot
- Knows how to turn on a computer
- Can read a map (or follow directions from that lady that lives in that rectangular device that sits on your dashboard)
- Has the courage to do some weird things and go some weird places
- The curiosity to investigate
- Most importantly, knows how to have fun! Because that is the #1 reason for the Team Challenge.
Those of you who don't like scavenger hunts, bear in mind that that is only a very tiny portion of this event. Solving puzzles, locating little-known unique places, and participating in unusual activities will take up the lion's share of your time.
Don't whine when you hear how much it costs. Divide it up among your team and you'll see it will be peanuts compared to a weekend doing anything else that is fun. Plus it's without the kids! Plus plus the proceeds go to the Boy Scouts of America.
Another thing not to whine about is that it takes up your weekend. You'll see you have several options of when to start and finish, so you make your schedule and participate as much or as little as you like.
And don't even think about whining about the driving. See how that goes over with the team from San Francisco that is driving down here to participate. You don't have a leg (or wheel) to stand on.
Fill out your registration form, and send in everything under the "Registration" heading in the rules, and you are all set. If you want to get your clues via e-mail, make sure you check that box. Make note of two critical areas:
- Every participant must be at least 21 years old, and must turn in a signed Hold Harmless agreement, or they can not participate.
- For every vehicle being used, you must submit a copy of its current California Automobile Liability Insurance Card. If you do not turn one in, that vehicle cannot be used at any time during the event.
Once we get your paid registration, you will be e-mailed a set of Early Bonus Clues that you can start working on as soon as you get them!
We will be having an awards celebration on the evening of the final day, with patches for every participant and plaques for each member of the winning teams for high gross and high net. C'mon, you know it will be fun. Get in your registration and let the games begin.
-Your maniacal hosts, Paul Oliver and Jack Fishel
P.S. Pass this along to all your co-workers, family and friends (or even enemies that you want to compete against), because this event is open to everyone in or out of Scouting. You do not need to be a Scouter to join in the fun.
